Practical Elements
Director Cullen Hoback designed and filmed practical elements like the Satoshi statue and a mirrored genesis block. Using his footage, we layered graphics to make a seamless experience for viewers, blurring the line between what's real and what's computer generated.
Visualizing Time
The order of events was crucial in the film, guiding the viewer through the narrative as it jumped back and forth in time. To enhance this experience, we designed a timeline system that spanned over three decades, enabling the audience to effortlessly track the most significant events across the story. Every ten minutes the mining network validates another block and creates a reward: bitcoin. So, when it came to the timelines, it felt natural to use blocks as the measure of time. Figuring out how to move between days, months and years was a design challenge that we solved with scale, as if we pinched to zoom into the timeline to see closer dates.
The Bitcoin Forums
As we followed the breadcrumbs scattered across thousands of posts in the Bitcoin forum, subtle hints within various conversations began to emerge, leading us closer to discovering Satoshi Nakamoto. To amplify the suspense of Cullen Hoback’s investigative journey, our team meticulously recreated the original Bitcoin forum posts and brought them to life through motion design, heightening the tension throughout the film.
